SAMUEL PAUČO

curator: Martina Šviková

Samuel Paučo is a young Slovak artist who, in his paintings with monumental effect, combines an intuitively emotional, expressive style with a conceptual approach. The process of painting itself, consisting mainly of dynamic layering and blending of abstract forms and fragments referring to the physical world, is important for his art work. Yet he also explores painting in three dimensional objects, which he uses for examining individual elements of traditional pictures (often created for instance through combining several pictures or their sections facing together, keeping the painting hidden).

He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Brno University of Technology, in the studio of Martin Mainer (2005–2011), where he also took an internship in Václav Stratil’s intermedia studio. Between 2010–2012 he worked at the same Faculty as an instructor (in Martin Mainer’s and Petr Kvíčal´s studios). Between 2012–2018 he worked as an instructor in Martin Mainer’s Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Since 2004, he has also worked intensively in music, currently playing guitar with violin player Alexey Aslamas in Swing Pigs. He had his first solo exhibition in 2007. The exhibition in White & Weiss Gallery is Paučo´s first solo exhibition in Slovakia. He has received multiple awards – the last one in the prominent Slovak competition Maľba 2018; in 2009 and 2015 he was nominated for the ESSL Award and in 2011 for NG333. His works are in private collections across Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Great Britain and Serbia. He lives and works in Brno and Prague.
