PETER CVIK: FLOW

White & Weiss Gallery presents a selection from the work of Peter Cvik (b. 1985), a striking contemporary painter of the younger generation, and finalist of several years in the Painting VÚB competition. In these works from the TOK [FLOW] series, unexhibited until now, he concentrates on landscapes, elaborating through them visual impressions from his travels. The exhibition runs until 12 June.

The exhibition’s title is not an accident. The individual pictures have in them a disposition of collecting time and space. Cvik is endeavouring to create new “synthesized” realities, evoking the seen (light, shadow, spatial depth) while also disrupting it with painting interventions and gestures. This makes for individual sceneries filled mostly with an anxious atmosphere of movement and rhythm, mutually permeating areas, and spontaneous brush-strokes, along with expressive and particularly diagonal trajectories that occasionally collide, intersect or permeate.

In these works from the TOK [FLOW] series, unexhibited until now, he concentrates on landscapes, elaborating through them visual impressions from his travels. Yet Cvik intentionally avoids the digital software and photography he originally used as aids to construct landscapes. Equally, he has abandoned material interventions into the space through nets, indulging only in colour and rejoicing purely in procedures of painting.
